We are currently in a study that tracks relational “Encounters With The King Of Kings,” encounters that demand a response. Every person has some brush with the Lord Jesus Christ, some exposure to His character, His creative power, or His call.

Our study today brings us to an encounter with a request from a Roman Centurion, an unlikely person to call upon the Lord Jesus for help. In fact, this story stands out from many other accounts because of the statement made by the Lord, that He had “not found such great faith; not even in Israel!”

What a surprise for us all who claim to believe in and follow the Lord Jesus. We are reminded that the Lord draws people to Him who would never make it through our grid. First, a tax collector by the name of Levi leaves everything without any personal struggle to let go of his past life. What an example that speaks to us of the wonder of our Lord, calling people to Himself without our programming or seeker-sensitive structures.

Then, we come to a professional soldier, a Roman Centurion; someone who surprises ‘even the Lord’ by such a great faith that he is able to believe the Lord can do anything. We know this because he testifies in essence that the Lord has Authority over everything. His faith reveals belief in the Lord’s Omniscience, in the Lord’s Omnipresence, and in the Lord’s Omnipotence. Wow!

This Centurion’s testimony should shake us up. We need to examine the level of faith working in our lives today. This man reveals Elements that fueled his “amazing” faith, and may we recognize & apply this truth for a greater faith!

• LIFE Groups - are small groups that meeting in members homes on Sunday evening’s returning fall 2010. Each Group provides refreshments and childcare. We will be studying and participating in Focus on the Families, the TRUTH PROJECT. This Study will require a lot of discipline and commitment, but it will also encourage, challenge, and equip you in your biblical world view.
